You may have read the billions of news pieces cropping up overnight and this morning in which Nintendo apparently confirms that the Revolution will be playable at next year’s E3.
Well, we have a few points to raise. The first would be that this news is perhaps the most obvious information ever published. Of course the Revolution is going to be playable. It’s due to be released in summer 2006, for crying out loud.
Our second point is that Nintendo didn’t actually confirm playable Revolution games. You know all those news pieces talking of a press release confirming Nintendo pledges of playable code? They all stem from this email, sent out by NOA yesterday:
You're probably just starting to plan your time for 2006. With a mere 165 days to go (give or take), it's time to start thinking about next year's E3. Nintendo is most certainly thinking about it. So pencil us in. You'll hear all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console, code-named Revolution. You won't want to miss it. See you there.
WHAT: Nintendo's E3 Media Briefing
WHEN: Briefing begins at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006.
WHERE: Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), Hollywood & Highland Center, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028
WHY: You know why.
Note the part which says, “You'll hear all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console, code-named Revolution,” and doesn’t say, “There will be playable Revolution games at E3.”
We have had word of one major franchise in the works for the Revolution - currently unannounced - which we’ll update you on later today, once we receive confirmation from our Japanese source. Keep an eye on the front page.
Another point to note is that Nintendo has abandoned its usual pre-show haunt, the Really Big Room at the Hollywood and Highland Centre, in favour of the Kodak Theatre, located in the same complex. From the theatre’s
website we can expect a somewhat grander affair than Miyamoto making a joke about sexing up some girl we didn’t recognise over a session of Nintendogs.
