We don’t know whether me missed this somehow, but our friends at Microsoft just told us that the Xbox 360 controller will be fully compatible with the Windows operating system and its games.
“Joining the Game Precision Series later this year will be the new Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, a wired gaming controller that works with Windows XP-based PCs and the new Xbox 360 system to deliver a consistent gaming entertainment experience across Microsoft's gaming platforms,” the Redmond firm said in press release.
As you can see, only the wired version is available, though Windows gamers will no doubt be pleased to have access to a decent gaming pad, especially from Microsoft, who’s now-canned Sidewinder peripherals blighted many a game in their day.
The price of the pad will be $44.99 in the US, other regions TBC.
Of course, this issue again raises the slightly thorny question of just how Windows compatible the Xbox 360 will actually be. Microsoft has thus far declined to outline exactly how friendly the OS and console will be, disclosing only the Media Center compatibility to date.
Perhaps X05, taking place in early October, will shed more light.
