Having
fought to keep Europeans from its shiny handheld for the better part of a year, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will no doubt be basking in glee today as the UK launch figures for its PlayStation Portable begin to roll in.
It has been claimed 185,000 hardware units were sold over the course of last weekend, though SPOnG believes this figure more closely represents available hardware, with perhaps 70% or so actually selling through.

According to charts issues by ELSPA/ChartTrack, PSP software has total domination of the charts, nailing down over half of the top 40 game spaces with its exclusive titles, nine of which occupy the top 10 alone.
1 Ridge Racer (PSP)
2 Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 (PS2/Xbox/PC)
3 Wipeout Pure (PSP)
4 Virtua Tennis: World Tour (PSP)
5 Metal Gear Ac!D (PSP)
6 Need For Speed Underground: Rivals (PSP)
7 Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition (PSP)
8 ToCA Race Driver 2 (PSP)
9 Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix (PSP)
10 Spider-Man 2 (PSP/PS2/GBA)
Before anyone gets in a flap over PSP's chart domination, keep in mind that we're in the depths of the summer release draught. With software sales down on all other formats,
the launch couldn't have been better timed to storm the charts without any reasonable resistance.
