NintendoTon Explained!

Calm down, it’s only a party

Posted by Staff
Oh god, we’ve been jingoed… Self-loathing aside, SPOnG has watched the Internet games community with interest and amusement over the past few days. We have read ongoing speculation talking of a major announcement about to rock the world, originally slated for today, the fifth anniversary of the Game Boy Advance and GameCube showings of SpaceWorld 2000.

It even came to be known as “WednesdayTon!!11one!!11!”. Really. In some circles, it’s being changed to “ThursdayTon!!11!one1!!”

Here is what is actually happening. We contacted Nintendo today. There is no major hardware or software announcement going to made. There is, however, a party being held in London tomorrow. “We are inviting everyone along to have a drink and a mingle and learn all about our plans over the Christmas period. There will be a speech by NOE president Satoru Shibata but there will be no significant hardware or software announcements.”

So there you have it. Or don’t. Nintendo’s party will be Christmas-themed and sounds like a great deal of fun – We might even take photographs while we’re there and post them on Friday. But you won’t be finding out anything worthy of slapping Ton on the end of a word.

Shame really.

Well, if you snap some pictures, may I make a special request?

The Game Boy Micro will be part of NOE's Christmas plans, so I need a total of four different pictures of the unit. One is for development, the other are for personal reasons.

1. I need a clear picture of the inside of the cartridge bay. Just take the game pak out of it and take a picture directly down that. It must use a good flash, so that there are no dark spots. In particular interest is the left hand side of that port.

2. If you own a Game Boy Advance Movie Player or an Action Replay.. take a picture of either of those inside of a Game Boy Micro.

3. Bring a GBC game or a GB game and see if it will fit in the unit. If it doesn't fit, don't bother with the last two pictures. If it fits, take a picture of the unit with a GB game sticking out of it.

4. Turn it on and take a picture of the GBM with a GB game sticking out of it.

That's about it. I personally want lots of pictures of the different colored GBA Micro units, please! Also, that white Game Cube is something hot to photograph.

And I don't care about the whole Thursdayton thingie as it is not a portable related rumor.

You forgot the most important part...

Step 5: Then proceed to shake it all about. Because apparently that's what Nintendo is all about. (Tilt and Tumble, Wario Ware, rumble paks anyone?)
