Memory cards are great aren’t they? Eight megs is a dream come true for PlayStation 2 owners. You must remember that the original PlayStation cards were a mere 256k. One of the more hotly anticipated features of next generation console gaming is the inclusion of a hard drive, a feature considered a necessity for true Internet connectivity.
As the first details of Sony’s industry-revolutionising PlayStation 2 started to emerge, the console giant made it clear that aside from games and DVD, the new PlayStation would become a primary Web connection device. To do this with any level of proficiency it was widely understood that two issues needed to be addressed. One is connectivity, via a modem for instance, and storage device for downloads and temporary files. Sony has promised a modem device for the console as well as a broadband adapter, and now news of a finalised hard-drive unit has reached us.
The units will be manufactured by Seagate Technology for Sony and will be “external, connecting through an open slot.” Another model has been discussed which would be “housed internally” hinting that a new model of the machine could be in development.
