Shock news this morning as SPOnG learns that the PlayStation 2 version of Far Cry: Instincts has been canned outright, with the title now being prepped for an exclusive Xbox outing.
The PlayStation 2 version, a gallery of screenshots of which you can view here, was always thought unlikely as the work required in port the PC code is intense. No official line was offered by publisher Ubisoft this morning, with the firm’s press release simply stating “Today Ubisoft announced that Far Cry Instincts will be available exclusively for the Microsoft Xbox. Far Cry Instincts will ship to retail in September 2005.”
We contacted Ubisoft for clarification and were surprised to be told that, “The official line is that all efforts are being put into the Xbox release for September. The PS2 may be considered for the future.” So is there hope for Sony gamers after all?

Instincts is looking like the most beautiful xbox game to date, so I'm not that surprised. Shame it's a bit late for a GC version.
