Sonic the Hedgehog Lies Revealed
You might remember this news piece about Sonic Gems Collection. It stated that, “According to not really very much at all, Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage II and Streets of Rage 3 will be available to play as part of the medley of classic Sega titles SGC offers,” and followed the claims of several online sites (IGN being the primary offender) which reported the MegaDrive brawlers would be re-released.

Seemingly, it’s not true. Even a little bit. You see, this morning in Japan, Sega offered the full list of games it would make available in the GameCube-exclusive title. It reads:

Sonic The Fighter (Arcade, 1995)
Sonic The Hedgehog CD (Sega CD, 1993)
Sonic R (Sega Saturn, 1997)
Sonic Spinball (GameGear, 1992)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (GameGear, 1992)
Sonic & Tails 2 (GameGear, 1994)
Sonic Drift 2 (GameGear, 1995)
Tails Sky Patrol (GameGear, 1995)
Tails Adventures (GameGear, 1995)

So, unless the Streets of Rage Trio is a bonus (and let’s face it, it’s not the likeliest of inclusions) it looks like a case of rumour gone wrong. And at least if it had been a rumour we’d started, we’d have said NiGHTS was bundled or something actually exciting. Pah!

Sonic The Fighter (Arcade, 1995) A for novelty
Sonic The Hedgehog CD (Sega CD, 1993) A for being simply amazing
Sonic R (Sega Saturn, 1997) B if only for the soundtrack
Sonic Spinball (GameGear, 1992) C Average game
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (GameGear, 1992) B Top rework
Sonic & Tails 2 (GameGear, 1994) B Cracking Sonic stuff
Sonic Drift 2 (GameGear, 1995) A YES!
Tails Sky Patrol (GameGear, 1995) A You just can't argue with TSP
Tails Adventures (GameGear, 1995) A again. End of lifecycle GG joy

Overall - B+

If you can be arsed and you've not already hammered all these on emulator, this collection is sublime. Plus, there's sure to be bonus content too. I can't help but wish it had been DS though...

Come on, have you never heard of hidden content on these compilations. the trilogy could just as easily appear in the list after so many completions of so many games on the disk.#

Keep an open minded people.

Apparently the Streets of Rage games will be included on a Bonus Disc.

But Sega Europe's site has listed these nine games for quite a while now, as well as the message "Plus additional unlockable games to discover along the way..."

Check out the features tab on the official game page for the proof.
