According to reports surfacing from Taiwan overnight, graphics card supremo nVidia looks set to show its next generation of GPU (graphics processing unit) within the next few weeks.
Carrying the pre-production moniker of G70, nVidia’s new GPU should deliver twice the performance of the current flagship series, the GeForce 6800, in a move clearly aimed at taking the limelight away from current tech sector darling ATI.
Reports claim that the G70 will be built using a 0.11-micron process at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, falling short of ATI’s R520 chip, which will be manufactured using a 90nm process.
The G70 is expected to go on show at the Computex Taipei 2005 show from May 31 to June 4. We’ll bring you updates then.

Now.. I might be getting my 0's mixed up here, but surely 0.11 microns == 110 nm, right? So how is that trumping 90nm?
Not that I really care, mind you.. bring on the overpriced silicate products, the inner-geek wants his fix!

In electronics, smaller widths are better than larger ones. Smaller widths allow designers to create integrated circuits that consume less power, but do the same things "traditional" circuit technologies (i.e. BJT) do. More importantly, circuit complexity is allowable (thanks to the smaller channel width), and therefore designers can basically pack more transistors onto a given chip. More transistors on a chip equals more functionality of that chip, and more functionality means more fun staring at way more moving dots on a screen (for this case, a GPU).
