It looks like Sonic the Hedgehog is set to make something of dramatic comeback at this year’s E3, with a predicted three games expected to be shown as three platform exclusives.
The first and most interesting perhaps is Sonic DS, a game long in development in Sega’s DS-loving Sonic Team. The game has been knocking around all of Sega’s offices in complete and final form, with this final version to go on show at E3. SPOnG can confirm that this game will be something of a surprise, with the usual Sonic button-driven capers being replaced by an all-new touch-panel control scheme.
As to what this comprises is a closely guarded secret, with one Sega spokesman simply stating, “There’s no way I’m telling you. It’s a secret, stop wasting my time.” We did promise to keep it a secret. We were however, lying.
Whether this is Sonic Rub, the tech demo shown to press at E3 last year, remains to be seen.
Check the game out here.Next up from the Land of Rumour comes an all-new Sonic Mega Collection bundle which - word has it - will be a GameCube exclusive. The selection box will contain Sonic CD, Sonic The Fighters and SPOnG believes Sonic The Hedgehog Arcade will be there, among others.
And finally, we have a PSP offering, also expected to grace the showfloor this year. Depending on which whisperings you cock your ear to, this is either a re-work of Sonic R, a Mega Collection 2 offering released six months after the GameCube version, or a Sonic Adventure rework.
UPDATE: We got hold of Sega who informed us, “Sonic plans are our most closely guarded secret at this time and there’s no ay we’re going to tell you anything about them. Especially Sonic DS. That’s extra secret.” So it’s not Sonic Rub then? “Erm, we can’t comment.”
Make of that what you will, though further digging does point to a Sonic Mega Collection hitting PSP at some point, good news indeed.
