Ubisoft “blending winning formula” as we write.

Far Cry Instincts Further Away
Ubisoft announced this afternoon that the console update of its splendid Far Cry has been bumped to a September release date. “Ubisoft is blending the winning formula of Far Cry for the PC with the hardware capabilities of the consoles. The result – an intense action-packed gameplay experience that will raise the bar for the First-Person Shooter Survival genre,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. “In Far Cry Instincts, players will become the Ultimate Predator, as they are forced to outlast the wilderness hell and unleash every imaginable survival tactic and skill.”

Originally slated for a spring release on PS2 and Xbox – and definitely due to appear on the latter if not the former - the delay means we have more time to get our teeth into Timesplitters Future Perfect! We do, of course, look forward to seeing Far Cry Instincts, on whatever platform, in September.

Is this just a port? Because they seem to suggest it's a new game.

It is a new game. The Farcry engine is far too advanced to run on PS2 hardware, that would be the equivalent of running half-life 2 on PS2. So they are slimming it down, and releaseing it on PS2 and X-box. The foundation is based off the PC version, but the geometry is going to take a hit, as will the texture quality and lighting effects, but it should be decent anyways.
