Sony Consumer Electronics has patented what, to all intents and purposes, is a real-life version of The Matrix, The New Scientist will report on Saturday, with the company seeking exclusivity rights on direct-to-brain feedback.
The objective stated by Sony is to enable movie-goers and game players to experience sensations such as touch and smell during movie and interactive entertainment experiences, though no specific application was outlined.

Sounds great. Like a Virtual Boy. Just miles worse.
Head of Sony PR stateside, Elizabeth Boukis, said the work was a "prophetic invention" that "…was based on an inspiration that this may someday be the direction that technology will take us."
