Codemasters has announced a new version in its TOCA Race Driver Series called – wait for it – TOCA Race Driver 3. There are dozens of racing sims out there in video game-land, but the TOCA series has become one of our big favourites over the past eight years. The games just feel so…right; that just about sums it up, and the promise of a third version – in development for a year already – has got us all giddy. Codemasters state that TOCA Race Driver 3 will feature 35 different motorsport disciplines, including British GT, Muscle Cars, V8 Supercars, DTM, Monster Trucks, Baja Motocross, Formula Palmer Audi, Historic Grand Prix, Touring Sports Cars, Formula 3, BMW Williams F1 Team and many more.

Gavin Raeburn, head honcho of the TOCA series said, "TOCA Race Driver 3 is a huge project and one we've had in the works for almost a year already. The team are doing an incredible job and taking motorsport gaming to a level that no one else is even touching upon and they're doing it to a hugely advanced point. The refined engine will enable players to really thrash the cars and see the real world results of doing so: radiators will overheat, tyres will burnout, engines will blow – the works. This detail means the actual races become far more exciting and tactical. You may be a good enough driver to get to the front of the pack, but can you stay there when your engine is threatening to rip itself out and there's hardly any rubber left on your rims?"

The game is due to appear on PC, PS2 and Xbox this winter, and for the latest on TOCA Race Driver 3, see Codemasters' official press release here: http://spong.com/x?vid=11039020
