Creative Assembly: Total Sega

Sega Sammy buys Rome studio.

Sega Sammy Holdings has announced it has acquired Creative Assembly outright, in a deal for an undisclosed sum.

Creative Assembly - famed for the Total War series - will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the holding company with its next game, the astounding looking Spartan: Total Warrior, already adorning Sega’s literature.

See a video of the game, shaping up to be one of the multiformat crowed pullers at E3, right here. And no, we don’t know how they managed to get hold of flamethrowers 2,000 years ago.

SSH explains that a stagnating Japanese market forced it to look to begin a full-scale expansion of operations in the west. “The markets of the consumer business, which Sega Sammy Group regards as one of its core businesses, have expanded rapidly in North America and Europe, while the Japanese market has seen sluggish growth. Hence, for our business development in the future, the North American and European markets have been growing in importance. Under these circumstances, Sega Sammy Group is promoting the concentration of its management resources on growth areas in its consumer business, relocation of its development resources for better productivity and unification of its development and marketing strategies.”

Result. For SEGA that is.

Creative Assembly have to be one of the top UK developers at the mo.
Let's hope they carry on bringing out quality RTS titles, though this console game looks interesting, lot's of PoP:Sands of Time influence is apparent, which is no bad thing really.
