Following a marketing and PR campaign that consisted of pretending nothing was happening, it’s a pleasant surprise to see the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of the awesome Sonic Mega Collection Plus topping the all-formats chart in the UK.
The compendium, first featured on Nintendo’s GameCube, also sold well in the US, with Sega Sammy Holdings recently citing the game’s performance as a factor in it’s riotous profit announcement of last week.
As you should know, Sonic Mega Collection is almost proof that God exists, combining about a thousand English earth pounds of 16-Bit cartridge joy, and coming complete with a happiness guarantee.
The fact that The Blue One knocked Need For Speed Underground 2 off the top, albeit after everyone in the whole country has bought four copies each, has to be seen as a bonus.

Interesting choice for the game to finally dethrone NFSU2, though certainly not an unpleasant surprise. Would I be correct in saying that this is the first retro compilation to reach #1 in the UK all-formats chart?
