Interesting news from Japan breaking this morning sees Konami, one of the world’s leading entertainment software companies has announced plans for a major consolidation of its operations, an unexpected strategy-shift reminiscent of the floundering of Sega in the pre-Sammy wind-down.
Citing ‘efficiency issues’ Konami will bring Konami Computer Entertainment Studio (Beat Mania and Pop n' Music) Konami Computer Entertainment Japan (Metal Gear Solid series) and Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (Suikoden series, Silent Hill series, Castlevania series, Winning Eleven series, Rumble Roses) together under a single banner.
As with Sega, administration and marketing will be streamlined, though details of this, as well as possible job losses, were not disclosed.
In its financial statement, Konami said, “After collating our developers and knowledge base that were decentralised into three subsidiaries, we will shift our business concentration towards the online market, which has a large growth potential.”
