Following months of speculation, much of which pointing towards a serious slippage, Nintendo Europe has confirmed the release date for the GameCube version of Resident Evil 4.
Coming somewhat sooner than expected, the game will be available across Europe on 18th March 2005, with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions to follow towards the end of next year.
The importance of Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube simply cannot be overestimated. The game represents the final roll-of-the-dice for Nintendo’s beleaguered home console and couldn’t come at a better time, with retailers across Europe beefing up supply of the machine in the absence of decent levels of stock of Xbox and PlayStation 2.
With its new and improved installed base, perhaps there is a chance for a Nintendo home console renaissance at the dusk of this generation of machines.
