Rare is not making games for the Nintendo DS, despite botched claims to the contrary emerging again today.
SPOnG pointed out earlier this year that chatter doing the rounds had no grounding other than some positive comments about the system’s functionality made by Rare staffers. Given that Microsoft wholly owns Rare, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the chances of the Redmond giant lending support to its rival’s latest hardware is unlikely in the extreme.
Add this to the fact that development for Gizmondo by Rare was announced and you have something of a non-story.
This fresh round of gossip comes from an IGN article in which a member of Rare’s handheld team said, “…personally, I would love to do a sequel to either Blast Corps or Sabre Wulf on the DS.”
Speaking to Nintendo today, a spokesman told SPOnG, “There is nothing from Rare on the release schedule right now in any territory. As far as I’m aware, no one here even talks to [Rare] anymore. There’s certainly nothing right now.”
