You have to like ICO. It’s some kind of law. As with sitting with hippies and claiming that Native American art is, well, a bit crap, making any negative comment regarding ICO made to gamers is simply unacceptable.
Which is fine by SPOnG as we actually are somewhat partial to the original. The game’s quasi-sequel Wanda and the Colossus looks rather impressive here too, in the latest batch of screens to be released by SCEJ.
When the game was unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, some really rather interesting details were released which you might have missed. In order to fill out the third screenshot-driven news story of the day, allow us to fill you in.
Wanda and the Colossus takes place in a huge world inhabited by various giants, or colossi, if you will. Travelling from one to another on a horse, each colossus is a game world, and as you advance, each becomes more difficult to conquer. Controlling Wanda, you must make it to the head of each monster and cripple it, having overcome a blended puzzle/platform ascent.
Japanese gamers will be able to pick up Wanda and Colossus for PlayStation 2 (no word on the widely-expected PSP version as yet) from Easter, with US and European releases being shrouded in mystery at this time. When we find out more, we’ll let you know.
