SPOnG last night received several SMS messages at ungodly hours foretelling the launch of Half-Life 2, rather a strange event for the release of a PC game. But then so is the hype-fuelled anticipation of Valve’s update to its beloved FPS original.
So here it is: the English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese versions are scheduled to hit retail on November 16th of this year, ending speculation that the protracted, somewhat ridiculous row that has been escalating between Valve and publisher VU Games would force its release into 2005.
The basic Half-Life 2 release, it was confirmed, will include Counter-Strike: Source. VU Games also promises a Half-Life 2 Collector’s Edition that will include Half-Life 2 in DVD-ROM format, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life: Source, a free limited edition t-shirt, and a Half-Life 2 Prima strategy guide book.
