In a recent Famitsu article it has come to light that Irem is working on a follow up to its under-exposed cult mini-hit, Zettai Zetsumei Toshi, better known as Disaster Report, or SOS: The Final Escape, as it’s referred to in these European parts. The first title was praiseworthy for its unusual premise, and gently puzzling gameplay challenges. Without a machine gun, space-ship or zombie to be seen, the player simply had to escape the perilous scenario of a fragile city that had just been ravaged by a ferocious earthquake.
In a similar form, this sequel will place gamers back in the role of an innocent bystander trying to escape the danger zone immediately after an enormous natural disaster. This time around, that comes in the form of a flood. As the lead character splashes around, through semi-apocalyptic ‘basement swimming pools’ of organic origin, the threat of hypothermia will show its ugly, blue-lipped face. So not only will players have to worry about regular snacks to keep their health up, but they will also need to snuggle up with a blanket from time to time to keep the chills at bay.
Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 2 (Frozen Memory) is due for a Japanese PS2 release next year, and US and PAL versions are also expected not long after: although these have yet to receive official confirmation.
