The recent success of Nintendo’s Famicom-mini series, which has collectively sold more than 2.7 million units in Japan alone, was more than Nintendo had expected from its 8-bit re-releases. The retro GBA titles were supposed to be a relatively minor project, to appease the fanboys and keep things ticking over until the launch of the DS. However, gamers – particularly in Japan - seem to have plenty more love to give to the concept.
Verily, just as Nintendo has shipped its last Famicom-mini consoles in Japan, it is duly considering a fourth round of re-released software. It had been thought that the third batch was the concluding chapter for the Famicom-mini, but now that could change. As a spokesperson for Nintendo quite rightly stated, “We believe that it is the responsibility of a company to answer the needs of the customer if they have a demand.”
There has been no official confirmation of what games could make it to the fourth series, although there’s a veritable wealth of possibilities. As soon as Nintendo reveals its final decision on the project, we shall update you.
