Although Mortal Kombat: Deception isn’t due for release in the UK until November, Midway CEO David Zucker has already confirmed that work has begun on the development of... wait for it... Mortal Kombat 7. We would have readily bet every last penny in the SPOnG beer fund on there being a Mortal Kombat 7, but now the official word is out, so presumably the odds are somewhat diminished.
The most interesting aspect of this news is that MK7 will be, perhaps unsurprisingly, heading for the next generation of consoles. In Zucker’s own words at the RBC Capital Markets North American Technology Conference, “We’re making Mortal Kombat 7. We’ll have a PS3 SKU and an Xbox 2 SKU and we’ll have a wireless SKU.” So there!
Bearing in mind we’re only just getting news of the latest Mortal Kombat: Deception release, it’s no shock to learn that there aren’t any juicy MK7 details to preside over quite yet. It has, however, been confirmed that the special edition of MK Deception in the US does contain a number of bonus features, including a port of the arcade original, a making-of DVD and the obligatory collector’s card. Whether or not these extras will be included with the PAL release has yet to be confirmed.
