Clover Studios offers fresh eye candy - Okami video unleashed

Viewtiful Joe creators shows off divine water-colour wolf.

As any self-respecting gamer would surely agree, Capcom has been behind some of the most delightful video games ever made. Indeed, the establishment of Clover Studios had gone one step further to cement the company’s reputation as one of the most creative in the industry. Clover’s work on the Viewtiful Joe series has been critically acclaimed, and it’s impossible to deny the huge appeal in that studio’s luscious artistic talents.

Clover’s newest project – Okami – which pitches players as a lupine sun God, is set to continue this graphically-rich tradition. Having released a video demo, the somewhat mysterious premise has now taken a (very slightly) more tangible form. At first glance, Okami seems to be a highly-stylised, cel-shaded third person action game with animals. However, a more dizzying interpretation of the video invites simultaneous comparison to Mojib Ribbon, Viewtiful Joe and Ico. The heavenly potential for the PS2 exclusive Okami has certainly got us feeling pretty optimistic.

Liked the look of this game from the start since it's from Clover, but still screenshots don't do it justice til you watch it moving. Love the ancient manga scroll graphic effects, gives the game a whole different atmosphere to VJ. I'm hope this will be another huge hit for Clover because it's lovely to watch, and I hope it plays just as good. Clover deserve more success after VJ.

A very viewtiful looking game.

wow, now that looks pretty amazing.

it's interesting how, when photography was developed and capturing 'photo-real' images was possible, artists began to explore different ways of seeing the world, which brought about impressionism, expressionism, cubism etc..

now as videogames begin to approach a level of realism we are getting more and more visually unique and stunning games of this manner. and mostly from japan too. great stuff.

but when's it out ?
