Climax confirms Sudeki 2 is in the works

Follow-up to Xbox-only RPG announced.

In a recent update to the job section of Climax Studios' website, it has been revealed that the Los Angeles-based developer is commencing work on Sudeki 2. The first Sudeki game was released in the US at the end of last month and although its reception was fairly unremarkable, because it is one of the few Xbox-exclusive RPGs, it is an important title nonetheless.

No further details have been announced yet, and it is still unclear as to whether Sudeki 2 will make an appearance on the current Microsoft console, or if it’s intended for next-generation purposes. However, in addition to this sequel there has also been mention of other new titles including The Final Option and Dragon Wars, alongside Climax’s previously confirmed project - Codename Avalon, AT Fury 3, Hot Wheels, Tron 2.0 and Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.

The first Sudeki game is due for release in the UK at the end of August, at which point the Xbox-owning public can decide if the news of its sequel is of any relevance to them.

Climax look like they are trying to fill the Xbox gap that S.E hasn't plugged yet, and in doing so become really valuable to MS. MS need the friends to back their very neglected rpg wing, if they are ever going to woo japan with Xbox2.

Sudeki was a bold move by Climax, but I believed they tried to hard to make it look like a japanese game. Japanese rpgs are cool because they do and sometimes don't run along rpg cliches. Often they do things we wouldn't expect them to, which makes the game more fun. FFVII is a good example of this, you get bikes, cars, and guns, but also swords, magic and monsters. Cloud starts the game as part of a terrorist group, not some do gooder who wants to save the world. The Shin-Ra group wear matching suits, and look cool. These are all things that go against the rpg norm.

It's reliance on action was good in theory, but in practice was missing something. Perhaps it's because an action game doesn't need such a large cast of characters if you are only really using one. Sudeki reminds me of that old DC rpg game Soul Fighter, close but no cigar. It's gonna take a lot more to woo the japanese and others than that.
