Double Dragon Delights Announced For PS2

Pride Of The Dragon Peace and new Cavia title confirmed

Posted by Staff
Before the retro arcade heads start getting over excited, this isn’t actually Double Dragon news: it’s about two new PS2 titles that are dragon related. So, dragon fans, today is your lucky day. However, if you were looking for the mildly homoerotic mullet-laced violence of the Lee brothers alas, you’ve been tricked.

First up, perhaps most importantly, is a brand new RPG from Sony Computer Entertainment. Planned for a Japanese release, Pride Of The Dragon Peace will cast players in the role of a dragon tamer/trainer and will involve the usual mix of stat-building and combat. SCE have pencilled in October as a likely release date, with no mention of US or PAL versions thus far.

If that doesn’t get your dragon-appreciation gland pumping, then perhaps this next bit of news will. Cavia, developer of the rather splendid Drag-On Dragoon (also known as Drakengard), has announced that it is working on a new title for PS2 and Xbox. Although no further information has been provided, there’ll be a fair few people hoping for some kind of sequel to the aforementioned RPG tinged blaster.

As soon as we know more, expect a report accordingly.

Yeah this sounds nice. More dragon activity than you can shake a sword at. Sounds very similar to Capcom's Breath of Fire with the dragon tamer biz, or Square's Bahamut Lagoon rather.

Good year for dragons and monsters. Still eagerly looking forward to Capcom's Monster Hunter.

What is wrong with you people ?!! "...splendid Drakengard..." That was one of the worst games ever created! Horrible controls, bad graphics for a title so late in a console's life cycle, a story that made no sense what so ever....No wonder Sony is market leader. You morons will jump at any trash thrown to you and say it's a feast.

I loved DD, but was terribly s**t at it.

Am looking forward to this incarnation - hoping it rekindles fond memories - though expect it will disappoint.

Let's hope it's more Maximo than Pac-Man World. LOL

"That was one of the worst games ever created!"

Absolute nonsense, it's a perfectly decent (and original) game, even though it hasa limited lifespan.

"bad graphics for a title so late in a console's life cycle,"

It was first released in Japan in early 2003, which isn't that late at all.

"a story that made no sense what so ever....No wonder Sony is market leader."

Japanese games' stories can be complicated or bizarre, but I and many others find that appealing

"You morons will jump at any trash thrown to you and say it's a feast."

Whilst others jump at any feast and discard it as trash.

Well I never said anything about Drakengard because I have never played it.

What I do like is the dragon/monster killer idea of Monster Hunter where you can use swords and guns etc.

Love games where I can go up against enemies 2-3 times my size.

I am such a fool. I really should have read the full story instead of the about five words plus some erroneous conclusion jumping.
