Konami to develop world’s first ballet videogame?

Konami has recently paid a visit to the US patent office, where the company trademarked the name ‘Swanlake’. There has been no mention of any related game, but it’s an obvious possibility. Given Konami’s involvement in the Japanese health and fitness scene, it could potentially be the name of some hideous exercise device: but that is unlikely – as the trademark request was processed in America.

If Swanlake is indeed a videogame, it would be reasonable to guess that it will relate to the famous ballet of the same name. It could take the form of a bemani title, or even a dance mat title. Until Konami makes an official announcement, we can only speculate. Maybe it will be a simple shoot ‘em up: blasting swans off a lake in a treason-worthy style. Or maybe it was planned as a new MGS game, called Snake Law, and the spell check at the patent office was having a bad day. The possibilities are almost endless.

As soon as the truth behind Swanlake is uncovered, read it here.

Sounds weird but interesting, Konami love their dance games so though I'm not a ballet fan it could well surprise us. Nice to see something completely different for once. Go Konami.

Go for it Konami? Why invest money, time and manpower in developing a game which nobody will buy? It sounds s**t, it will be s**t, just stop now and do something else.

How the hell do we know what it sounds like? All we have is a name and some slight speculation. Why don't we.. You know.. wait and see what it's going to be before we start flinging names around, Ya?

I agree with ya, Funky. Games are covering all bases of action and adventure, but even that can get tired. I think Konami should be applauded for trying something new in a competitive market. We all know that if a western developer came up with such a concept, that they would be laughed at and not given the money to fund it's creation. Praise the lord for the japanese.

Look at all the best games of late that tried something new. Viewtiful Joe, Fable and Katamari Damacy. All good games too. Konami also have experience in dance/bemani games to build upon so I have some faith in them, when back in the day I never thought DDR would succeed. They proved me wrong and now I too love DDR games, and their music.

Bring it on Konami, hope it comes with a free tutu, LOL. Crap joke I know, moving on.
You never know this might be another game that might attract gamers, the female and the non-gamer crowd, just like DDR.

Hmm, though if it was meant to be some sort of ballet version of DDR, I'd be inclined to think that there'd be more than just simply swan lake in it given the usual variety of songs on DDR machines.

Or perhaps this is simply just a red herring to draww attention away from something bigger?
