At the PlayStation meeting in Japan earlier this week, it came to light that Sony Computer Entertainment is planning to take the covers off the PlayStation 3 project some time before E3 2005, cementing talk that the final console will be fully playable at next year’s event.
The PlayStation 3 roll-out plan as explained by group president Takeshi Kutaragi plots the ‘premiere’ of the console as a milestone, separate from the E3 showing, flagged as a separate milestone on the plan. A Tokyo Game Show appearance is also flagged separately.
It’s also worth noting that Sony’s official line on the PlayStation 3 is that it is referred to as ‘Next System’, although it’s highly unlikely that the PlayStation moniker, with its elephantine brand investment, will be ditched.
It is expected that the premiere of the third PlayStation will take place in Japan at some point in March or April of 2005. Keep it here for updates.
