In these exciting days, the handheld console market is teetering on the brink of a new age, with constant chatter of DS-this and PSP-that. But while everyone considers the bountifully joyous possibilities of the eventual, finalised products, the good ol’ GBA is continuing to bulk up its oft-understated technological muscle. Following the unveiling of AM3’s downloadable movie dispenser, comes news that Digital Act is almost ready to release its Campho Advance digital videophone for GBA.
Due for a Japanese release on July 30, Digital Act is hoping to shift a limited run of 10,000 units via the official website. For the price - 19,000 Yen (under £100) - it does seem like a relative bargain, being considerably less expensive than most other video-phones on the market.
There are no plans to bring this device to Europe, but it should still be interesting to see how successfully the now ageing GBA can take on the role of multimedia player and communication device, and how popular these peripherals prove.
