New Seiken Densetsu in the Works, Square Enix Plans Future of Mana

RPG favourite heading to DS or PSP?

Posted by Staff
A recent update to the official Square Enix homepage has revealed that a new game in the popular Seiken Densetsu RPG series is on the way. This will almost certainly take a similar form to previous SD titles such as Secret of Mana for the SNES, and its GBA remake, Sword Of Mana.

Square Enix are currently recruiting planners and designers for the project, and amongst the listed vacancies is mention of the need for 3D background modellers. This, combined with the expected timescale for development, would certainly imply this won’t be another GBA game which doesn’t really cope with 3D graphics.

So the big question is, what format is this game heading to? Unless this happens to be the outcome of Microsoft’s hunt for exclusive Xbox 2 material, then this will most probably find its way to either the PSP or the DS. The lack of advertised vacancies for next-generational developers would, however, make the latter options far more likely.

Until Square Enix announces further details, the exact format will remain unknown: all there is to go on are these two pieces of preliminary artwork.

Whatever format it's on I'll be there in a flash. Seiken Densetsu series is cool, but gets overlooked by many. Another game is very welcome.
