Another MMORPG bites the dust - Ultima X: Odyssey is no more

EA re-organises online development and bins major title.

First Mythica, then True Fantasy Live Online, and then Warhammer Online. Ultima X: Odyssey is the latest in a burgeoning cess-pit of discarded MMORPG projects, with the game being binned by publishing giant Electronic Arts.

The decision was made as a result of EA's effort to concentrate online project work within one development team. Consequently, most of the staff working on the UXO MMORPG is now contributing to work on the upcoming Ultima Online expansion pack as well as another, as yet unnamed, Ultima title. However, despite EA’s plausible explanation for the cancellation, it wouldn’t be surprising if the cost and scale of the UXO project was also escalating beyond a manageable level, forcing this decision to be made.

Watch this space for news of EA’s latest Ultima projects as soon as it breaks.

Cutbacks eh. I thought EA were loaded from all the copies of FIFA and John Madden they have sold over the years? Haven't played any Ultima games at all so i don't know what I'm missing, but at the same time I don't wanna live with my PC playing online rpgs for the rest of my natural life.

Perhaps this is a good thing, then EA could invest in shorter quick fix online games. This will give gamers a chance to live the house now and then.

Another one bites the dust.
