After doubts had been cast over US retailers’ insistence that Doom 3 was still on course for a summer release date, it would seem that iD’s much anticipated FPS is due for an imminent launch. Both EB Games and Gamestop are advertising pre-orders for the PC game with a ‘just announced release date’ of August 3.
That said, other retailers are still touting different dates, so there is still possibility of slippage. iD would do well to get Doom 3 on the shelves before Half-Life 2, but will still be confident of impressive sales even if that doesn’t happen. Indeed, the launches of these long awaited FPS's are expected to drive PC games sales through the roof.

Yeah...releasing it around the time of a couple other First Person Shooters isn't the best of ideas, but it'll get pretty good sales regardless of when it's released.
But hey, they sooner I get my Doom 3, the better. ^_^

I don't know, my Doom 3 excitement has been dampened as of lately. Think about it, besides the franchise why else do you want the game?
FPS are a dime a dozen, and many are doing a fine job of storytelling and graphics. Look at Chronicles of Riddick! I'm not really apt to buy one unless it's got an angle (ex: The realism of RS3) or some damn-crazy innovation (ex: Halo 2.)
