Traditionally, PC strategy games haven’t placed much emphasis on graphical prowess. Turn-based war games and RTS titles simply don’t need a great depth of detail, and when screens are chock-a-block with thousands of units and buildings and explosions, it would just get confusing anyway. Total War, however, upped the stakes substantially with its unusually powerful graphical engine. Not to be outdone, THQ have revealed video footage of their own Warhammer 40,000 RTS – Dawn of War, and it looks awesome.
Fans of Warhammer 40,000’s tabletop tactics should be fully aroused by this preview, as it appears to be the most faithful adaptation of the epic sci-fi world yet released. Fire Warrior impressed some, but the nature of the game bore little relation to Warhammer’s strategic roots. Dawn of War, however, should provide the definitive fantastical strategy experience.
Until the game’s release in October, you can check out the video previews at THQ’s official website www.thq.co.uk, but have a look at these stills first.
