Xbox 2 Dev Screen Lies Exposed?

Is this the next face of Xbox?

Posted by Staff
Screenshots of what purports to be a Xbox Next development kit, called Xenon, have leaked from an anonymous source at Xbox-scene.com. Allegedly, this screen would be used to launch and configure games. Although some sites are insisting that this is totally authentic, it could equally be be some kind of elaborate ruse. The Xbox-scene community is no stranger to eccentric console modifiers who boast applications so profoundly customised that they’re barely identifiable, and this could possibly be one of those.

In the early hours of this morning, freeware software for Xbox skinning was released by a member of the modding community. This is software that would make it straightforward for someone to mock up or emulate a ‘dev kit screenshot’. The spare hard-drive space information on the screenshot therefore doesn't necessarily indicate the size of Xbox Next’s hard drive, nor are the names Xenon and Dolphin gospel. This shot resembles a custom screen for someone who’s installed a 120 GB hard drive into their standard, current-gen Xbox. Perhaps that's what it is?

There have been no official confirmations from Microsoft, but it seems possible that this ‘leak’ could be nothing more than a big fat lie. Perhaps the folks at Xbox-Scene did get their hands on the genuine article and just so happened to release software with the power to create such screens at exactly the same time, but it seems far a bit too coincidental to be entirely convincing.

Stay tuned for all the facts about Xbox Next as soon as they become available.

What the hell does an Xbox2 dev image have to do with a XboxMediaCenter (XBMC) Skinner ?
An XBMC skinners helps to make XBMC skins ... not to make fake dev kit images.

That dev image was posted last week on xbox-scene and the xbmc skinner is from today - it's not even released yet, just news.

Yes. The same place as the skinner oddly enough...

still ... I can't understand what a XBMC (www.xboxmediacenter.com) skinner has to do with a screenshot of a dev kit.
It's not like it's possible to make XBMC look like that screenshot.

I know, and from that article you'd think that XboxScene actually make software, when in actual fact they're an xbox modding news site.
But don't expect the people at spong to understand anything they read on XboxScene.

Oh, grow up. Most of the people here have computing degrees.

Maybe, but the person writing above article does not know much about the Xbox.

I don't claim that dev kit screenshot is real (I can't know that) ... but I'm really sure it has nothing do to with an xbmc skinner in development.
If you would say that image was faked in photoshop or so ... that would be possible - but it hasn't been made with a auto xml-edition tool (that's what XBMC skinner is).

I reckon the Xbox-scene lot are ace. They do crazy things with hacked software and customised consoles.

But I do think Spong's right to be suspicious.

If a web community that spends its entire time illegally breaking into MS hardware, pirating games and creating custom software claims to have an official shot of an Xbox 2 devkit, I'd be a bit dubious...
