More Delightful Resident Evil 4 Details

Capcom’s splatter-fest takes shape.

Posted by Staff
Capcom have today revealed fresh details concerning Resident Evil 4, the latest episode in Capcom’s much loved survival horror series. The main character, Leon, embarks on a mission to save the president’s daughter, Ashley, fighting off zombies and mysteriously cloaked religious nutters along the way, by virtue of pump-action shotguns and rocket launchers. Once Leon has tracked her down, he will have to carry her to safety - meaning that he can’t use any weapons. When the whole city is overrun by fiendish undeads, that becomes an issue of some concern. Once this is achieved, however, Ashley will also become a playable character and the carnage continues accordingly.

Visually, Resident Evil 4 is already looking like a marked improvement on previous episodes. The over-the-shoulder cam perfectly conveys the tense, claustrophobic atmosphere without sacrificing the ability to actually see what’s going on, and the Gamecube manages the dimly-lit, heavily stylised moodiness with surprising aptitude. When you compare this to the usual diet of cutesy Gamecube fodder, it stands out even more conspicuously.

Expect to hear much more about Resident Evil 4 ahead of its official US release at the end of November. The European release date is currently scheduled for February next year.

This has to be the game on my GC most wanted hit list.
I love the over the shoulder cam view (previously used in games like Amuze's DC/PS2 Head Hunter and Io's Freedom Fighters) and it should improve the game, amongst all the other new bits.

I think I'd have to bag a U.S one for Xmas, cause waitin ain't something I'm good at. RE4 should also help shift a lot of GC at Xmas too.

Thank you Capcom for supportin me GC, while other bale out.

Totally agree with you Joji,

After some hesitation I played the remakes and quite enjoyed them, esp RE Zero.

I wonder if Mikami san, now free from the management/corporate double-speak that plagues games and the industry as a whole, can go home and think if GAME ideas not corporate planning. Same can be said for Miyamoto san, he seems to have been pulled away from the interview circuit and concentrating on GAMES.

As for the European wait.....dont..get them from the US only if cube owners bypass NOE then maybe they'll get 'round to releasing titles quicker.....just imagine a year of......Custom Robo / Baiten Kaitos / Four Swords / Donkey Konga / et al.

Any finally...no more bullshit regarding localisation....Nintendo are loaded they just don't see Europe as a priority market.

It does look tight-as-hell! I've never been able to get into the unforgiving, puzzle-ridden, gore fest that is the R.E. series. I'm sure a more easily-adaptable control sheme and traditional game-camera would help iniate many people to the series, including myself.

I can't get over it, the graphics are amazing.

Does anyone remember that supposed online R.E. game where people could play as humans or zomies? Or did I just dream that.

I guess NOE is really funny when it comes to games. I can understand why the u.s gets games first. This is due to a larger country = larger sales + english is the main langauge = less time to get games translated, sold and get the money from sales back.

The EU is the main problem, not the u.k. If most of europe used english more we would get games much quicker, but when you have a different langauge for each EU nation, and the EU having just gained a few more nations in May, games might reach us later than they do now, due to the amount of translating involved.

The game you speak of mrnull, is RE Outbreak on PS2 which was online. Looks like the 2nd one is now online in the u.k/eu but the 1st RE:O wasn't. Good one Capcom, but alteast they fixed the problem.

GC is getting some nice games at last, and I hope this continues.
