Mario 128 Hopes Evaporate as Nintendo Gives the ‘Nod of Doom’ - New Name Revealed Inside?
Loitering around the private access area of Nintendo E3 stand, we got talking to various people about the firm’s E3 press conference, its undoubted E3 success and other pertinent issues.

Speaking with one representative, we were asked about our thoughts on Nintendo's showing, and we said that we were surprised that Mario 128 wasn’t on show, and that we now believed that the game - whatever it might be - will launch with the next piece of Nintendo home hardware, almost certain to carry the name Mario Revolution. Our contact just nodded solemnly and refused to say anything on the record.

Understand, SPOnG is not rolling out this news as some kind of earth-shattering world exclusive - it's just that we asked someone who would know if Mario 128 had been scrapped and replaced by Mario Revolution, and they seemingly confirmed it to be the case.

We'll bring you updates on this in the coming weeks.

Are you sure he wasn't nodding off?

I'm sure it's illegal to do that in public. There again, this is California after all.

This story really has no merit. If your going to post news like this you really need some kind of proof. I'm starting to believe that this site is all about pure speculation.

Where does it state that this is a story? What makes you say it has no merit? I found this 'incidental' quite interesting, in that the Ninty spokesperson neither confirmed or denied anything about Mario 128. If there's any truth in this, you'll look like a jap's eye.

Nintendo man must be laughing now, SPOnG come up with wild idea, ask him about it and then he does not answer. He thinks "I'll nod and this SPOnG person will again publish wild rumours".

Maybe he bowed to superior person across the room, being polite.

Next week, SPOnG publish story about how Nintendo will rule the wold with THREE screen portable, no confirmation from Nintendo, so it must be true.

How bragging are SPOnG now anyway "Loitering around the private access area of Nintendo E3 stand"? This is where reporters are supposed to be, getting the story. This reads like "we are best mates with Nintendo, they tell us unconfirmed future plans".

I guess they just figured they already got the attention with Zelda, why use up another big gun? I never really thought it would be a GCN game anyway.

Hi, thanks for the cynicism. The person I spoke to stated quite clearly that Mario 128 has had its name changed and will not be released for GameCube. I was asked not to run it as fact and this story is the outcome of a trade-off in what we could post and what else we would get in the future.

Mario missing GC is a fact. It has been renamed, to Mario Revolution. From E3 there is plenty more that will be revealed in the coming weeks. What you fail to understand is that we have to manage things closely with all our partners within the industry, sometimes at the expense of the ability to publish certain pieces with the clarity they perhaps deserve.

Allusion is everything. You posters should read between the lines sometimes.

Could it be that it's just an allusion
putting me back in all this confusion?
