When we exclusively revealed that Outrun2 was on the way, SEGA fanboys and retro race fans were revving their engines in delight. Slowly but surely, details have juddered forth, and Outrun2 has since been confirmed for release on Xbox and PS2 as well as in the arcades.
There’s nothing that remarkable about the classic Ferrari racing sequel, but it should still carry enough nostalgic value to warrant a great deal of interest when it reaches release. The most important question will be whether or not videogame race drivers have enough disposable cash to see them through a congested few months. GT4, Forza Motorsport, Burnout 3 and others will all be vying for authorisation of that Mastercard, and if devotees have splurged their shrapnel on the Outrun2 machine in their local arcade emporium, it’s even less likely that the purchase will be made.
Outrun2 does, however, feature numerous red Ferraris and ladies with blonde hair. Superficial maybe, but it works for us!
