Thief III Steps From the Shadows

Set to steal several hours of your life.

After the break up of Looking Glass Studios (who created previous Thief games) Ion Storm managed to thieve a few of its most talented developers and find them gainful employment in the team. Backed up by Eidos, the company was then in the ideal position to jump back on the horse and create this intriguing follow up to the popular PC game. Thief: Deadly Shadows isn't a sequel proper, but will retain sufficient references to Garrett’s character as not to alienate existing admirers.

Just as in the first two adventures, Deadly Shadows will demonstrate how and why stealthy gameplay should be incorporated into a videogame. All too often, stealth elements are introduced as an afterthought in the hope of seasoning a game with ‘tactical considerations’. In other words, the player briefly contemplates the tedious option of slowly creeping around a guard - before concluding that the minigun option is clearly much funnier. Deadly Shadows, however, will be rich in strategic gameplay, reflecting a purist approach to lurking in the dark. Break into an innocent’s house, avoid the creaky floorboards, try not to wake the baby, and then go nick some shiny things!

Thief III has been in the offing for nearly two years now, and after the evident quality of Ion Storm’s most recent Deus Ex title, this bodes extremely well for Xbox and PC gamers alike.
