Animal Crossing Gets European Release Date

Nintendo build an arc for European gamers.

Posted by Staff
The Japanese release for Animal Crossing was in September 2002. In videogame terms, that’s quite a long time ago. Australian Cube owners received their PAL conversion at the end of 2003, and now finally Nintendo of Europe has seen fit to let our region have a bash. So after an age of dilly-dallying, Animal Crossing will reach our shores on September 24.

Despite these delays, the European version is set to be identical to the existing Australian and US versions. This is no bad thing, because the quirky gameplay and plethora of customisable features will be as appealing as they ever were. However, sales in this region might not reflect the popularity of the concept, as impatient fans have simply imported NTSC copies over the last year and a bit. Indeed, by the time of the PAL release, Animal Crossing will be on the cut-price ‘Players’ Choice’ label in the US and Japan.

I think it will still sell, GC owners have been deprived before of this for long now, and it's good to see it than not at all. Yes some folk will have it on import, but lots won't, as most folk don't play import games. Import gaming itself is really still a hardcore thing.
