We can reveal today that Sony Computer Entertainment America has rejected all Sega Ages titles at point of submission by Conspiracy Games, a harsh blow to the perceived credibility of the series and the profitability of Sega's US retro IP push.

All games have been knocked back for stand-alone release in the US, falling foul of SCEA's recently implemented crackdown on smaller already-released titles hitting shelves as stand-alone software units. As you will be aware, SNK's US office was forced to bundle its King of Fighters and Metal Slug offerings into two double packs due to the same policy.

It is believed that Sega and Conspiracy are currently at the point of deciding which games will be released as part of which packs. Sega historians will be aware that the Sega Ages games of old featured up to four games on a single cartridge, with even the offering for the Saturn delivering three massive Sega hits - namely Outrun, Space Harrier and After Burner.

Expect a revised US and possibly European Sega Ages announcement at this year's E3.

This time Sony are absolutely right to do so.

Having played a few of the japanese releases, I can say that this new SEGA AGES series sux ass, great old games converted to shoddy 3D versions with low poly counts and bad textures. The fact that each game is sold seperately makes it even more of a con.

...that said I did still play sega ages Golden Axe for a good couple of hours. :)

Im with you on this. Ive been reading quite a lot about Sony America tightening up on 2d games recently. I read somewhere that they didnt want the original Viewtiful Joe on PS2 but now there suprisingly interested in VJ2!!!

I think that Sony America are right this time. I remember some of the terrible Namco Hits releases on PSX that had 4 games, 3of which were complete rubbish, so you were forced to pay 30 quid for just one good retro game. Midway did a better job with that recent Treasures release, which had loads of golden oldeys.

Sega need a good slap and get those games out in bundles at least.

just because the series got rejected, doesn't mean the games are bad. it's just that paying a full fifty dollars for a game that people were playing years ago is kinda stupid ..

it's a very good decision on Sony's part .. it's decision making like this that put sony on top ..

PlayStation > N64
PlayStation 2 > GCN > XBOX (arguably)
Playstation 3 > Xenon > GCN2? (all signs point to this)

As for the handheld duel ... time will tell.

Nintedos big announcement at e3 will be that there wont be a gc2 but sega will release a dreamcast 2 and start giving Samba damigo maracas away with cheerios. Nintendo will become segas bitch and release software exclusively for the new mismarketed console.

duh ... microsoft will release a 3G live enalbles portable xbox the size of a vhs video cassette box. they'll give it away free with every box of cheerios

They were never designed to be full-price games. There's a reason they're branded "Sega AGES 2500" in Japan - they retail for 2500 Yen, about £12.50, which isn't full price (as I'm sure you're aware). They are budget games, always were and should always be.

People are highly mis-informed on this matter.
