Following a serious bit of wrangling with Sony Computer Entertainment America, SNK's US arm is finally getting its release schedule in order, offering two newly-revealed double packs of two of its most famous franchises for PlayStation 2
Specifically, this autumn will see the release of King of Fighters 2002 and 2003 in a single pack, which will go on sale for around $40, the price of a normal, stand-alone videogame.
Then, early next year will see the release of the second double offering, a pack comprising Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5 - a tantalising prospect indeed.
As of this point in time, there is no word on a release outside of Europe, though speaking to us off the record, several publishers based in the UK have confirmed that the entire SNK library is being touted for publication right now and has been for some time.
Indeed, SNK is at some stage of planning a European office, likely to be based in London in the medium term. Speaking to us at last year's E3, SNK Neo Geo US boss Ben Herman said, "Of course we are looking to expand our operation into Europe and open a full publishing arm there. There would be a lot of work involved and we'd need to select our partners very carefully. At this point in time, we need to consolidate what we have, then look to the future."
Updates soon.
