Ape Escape EyeToy Revealed! First Screens!

Everybody! Ooh-ooh-ooh-aagh!

Sony Computer Entertainment’s EyeToy push has stepped up a gear, with the announcement that the beloved Ape Escape will see a mini-game-driven camera outing, due for release in Japan this August.

The title will contain 33 mini-games, which are selected for the player at random by spinning a virtual roulette wheel. Most of the games will be sports and puzzle-based, though it's likely that rounding up monkeys will also feature in some way or other.

As for the wider implications of this announcement, it is welcome that Sony is ploughing resources and franchises into its EyeToy campaign, with the future looking increasingly bright. Could we see Gran Turismo EyeToy in the future?

Stay tuned for full updates and news of European and US releases.

I could see a system like Police 24/7 being used for lightgun games.

I tried to put a flashing light on top of my crash helmet like in Ape Escape but it wouldn't stay fixed on. It could have been really funny.
