It has come to light that Nintendo DS will not be the final retail name of the recently announced portable dual screen handheld from Nintendo. The final name, along with full global roll-out details, is scheduled to be announced at next month’s E3.
As well as the name, the suggested retail price, the launch date and a selection of day one software will be revealed at the company's conference, that will take place one or two days before the show proper commences.
According to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing, the current high level of scepticism surrounding the NDS is unjustified. Speaking to CNN he said, "The gamer needs to see it, to see the games, to see the full functionality of the machine. That's why we're reticent to give details until we can show it. If I was a gamer and I only saw bits and pieces of a platform, I'd be sceptical too," he said, echoing comments from Nintendo's management that hint towards the interesting portable exceeding all initial expectations.
He went on to say that Nintendo will be targeting "...early adopters who are looking for more complex gameplay and the gamer who has a little more money to spend", raising questions as to the expected price of the machine and its games.
Expect more in the coming weeks.
