Speaking to GameSpot at the Games Developers Conference in San Jose last week, acclaimed former Sega studio head Tetsuya Mizuguchi made some amazing claims relating to the future of Rez, arguably his most infamous piece of work.
The man who also created Sega Rally, when asked about his new studio's plans for possible support of next-generation handhelds, said, "Yes, I think my next game will be for the PSP or Nintendo DS." Amazingly, when asked (perhaps somewhat naively) if this would be Rez II, Mizuguchi-san stated, "In my mind, yes. But I won't use the Rez name because that belongs to Sega."
We think this is amazing news. Exactly how close an approximation to Rez Mizuguchi-san is able to make will be a good indicator as to the amicability of his split with Sega, which was rumoured to be a fairly heated affair, as United Game Artists lost its unparalleled sub-autonomous status at Sega.
We’ll keep you fully updated on Mizuguchi-san's antics in the coming weeks, with perhaps something tangible on show at this year’s E3.
