Regular readers will remember the ill-fated King of Fighters Online, a shift in gameplay for the beloved series that seemed like a good idea for almost a whole day, before developer Unotac canned it.

Undeterred, another Korean online gaming outfit, Mega Enterprises, has announced that it has signed the rights to make an online PC exclusive shooter-cum RPG using SNK’s famed shoot-em-up IP Metal Slug.

Unfortunately, no actual game details were released, with ME simply stating that the game would remain true to the series' root, in that it will be a 2D shooter, though it will feature heavy RPG and avatar-driven elements.

So the amazing SNK comedy bus rolls on. The world wouldn’t seem quite right without this kind of thing happening every few months, in our opinion, and long may it continue!

Next month – Pulstar Tennis playable only online via 3G-enabled Casio watches!

Surely, Pulsar tennis would only work on Pulsar watches.

A Casio watch would require Casio Tennis, as is the way with mobile gaming.

I only just got it. Metal Slug does not refer to a steely garden gastropod, but instead a bullet. Honestly, that never, ever occurred to me before. Indeed I thought it was one of the crappest, and weirdest names in computer gaming history. What a t**t!

On the other hand, guns don't kill people... bullets do!

This is true, but what is it to do with this story?

If I wanted to play 2D shoots them up games, I would dig out my Amiga and play Megablast! On my newest consoles I want to play new types of games.

Dude what does anything have to do with anything. I know that according to the Jedi we are all interconnected by the force. But I support an opposing theosophy that says that everything is unconnected. Even things that are apparently connected.

Dude, there are NO new types of games.

If things were in any way conected, this would be connected to the fact that no-one with any power in the computer games industry has got any imagination. They are all evil corporate drones appointed to make s**tty movie licence games. Because commissioning original and challenging games requires balls AND vision. But commissioning another s**tty fps and sticking an film licence on it doesn't.

If things were connected (as they should be) this would result in the immediate failure of these companies, and a resurgence in new and original games. But because things are not connected, the public will just keep buying the same s**te they are force-fed by EA every ad break. It's in the Game!

Well it's gonna be hard to change others from buying pants FPS No.351, but it's worth a try. I commend anyone that does so. Metal Slug is one of those games you can just pick up and play easily. An online version with 2d graphics should be interesting, and the series desevres more exposure. Bring it on.
