DRIV3R on the Move
Global wireless entertainment publisher Sorrent has signed a multi-year worldwide licensing deal with Atari to develop and publish wireless games based on the Driver games, including the soon-come DRIV3R.

"The wireless entertainment industry has evolved greatly over the past two years and cell phones now represent a truly viable gaming platform," said Greg Ballard, president and CEO of Sorrent. "At Sorrent we are aggressively expanding our product and licensing strategy to meet the needs of this growing market opportunity. By licensing this IP, one of the crown jewels of the Atari portfolio, Sorrent is helping to demonstrate the future of a convergent video game industry."

Of course, the use of the phrase 'cell phone' in the above quote most likely means that, at the time of going to press, the games will be a US-only affair. However, given the massive popularity of the Driver franchise, not to mention the saliva-inducing prospect of DRIV3R this summer, you can bet your last dime that the wireless games will go worldwide.

Executive Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Atari Wim Stocks said, "Wireless has emerged as a critical new gaming platform, making it an important extension for a title of DRIV3R's stature. In Summer 2004, during the highly anticipated launch of DRIV3R, gamers will enjoy a simultaneous product launch on console and wireless devices."

We'll probably see it on Nokia's pooh-gage first.

I think it's too soon to see any kind of real profit made from 'mobile/cell phone' gaming.

How funny is that? GC Driver 3 is canned but as a consolation, GC owners can now download a version for their mobile phone. Lol....do we not already pay enough for our mobiles, let alone games too? Thanks a lot Atari. As you can see i'm still not convinced about mobile gaming.
