Sony Computer Entertainment has released one screen apiece from Ratchet and Clank 3 and Jak III, the firm’s most successful platform gaming duo.
Developed by Naughty Dog, the Jak series has received universal acclaim in its previous incarnations, taking elements from Crash Bandicoot and blending them with a seemingly endless pot of new ideas and concepts that have expanded expectations within the platform game genre.
Ratchet and Clank is a series that also captured the hearts and minds of gamers from its first outing, with many being surprised at the advanced age of its players. Many older gamers jumped at the chance to play a game that – dare we say it – captured some of the magic of Mario 64 in its routines and level construction.
Both games are expected to hit retail by autumn 2004, though the two may well be staggered, with one hitting closer to Christmas. We’ll bring you more screens and hands-on impressions in the coming months – stay tuned!
