Brand new Sing-em-up for PS2

Sony has today announced it is to produce one of the first 'singing' titles for PlayStation 2. Dubbed SingStar, the innovative PS2 offering has players literally singing for points through a USB microphone to some of the pop industry's best known tunes. As players perform each track, they will be ranked based on pitch, tone and timing, in what is surely to become one of the most popular party games of 2004.

Similarly, Bemani-king Konami is producing its own singing title, Karaoke Stage, due to release this May.

The game will retail complete with two USB microphone peripherals and is due to hit the stores this summer. Stay tuned for further details and screenshots in the coming weeks.

and why not throw in eyetoy compatibility? :P

anyway, i suspect this will only be a seller in the east as i don't think western population is very interested in karaoke.

I don't see the difference. Whether displaying a complete lack of rhythm by jumping about on a sheet of coloured plastic, showing an utter lack of coordination whilst prancing in front of a camera or demonstrating the inability to sing on key, people will do it. In public.

Pubs and bars across the land *still* host karaoke nights and, after an alarmingly few drinks, people still get up and "sing".

I guess they're trying to demonstate that those Pop Idol /American Idol gimps are just as vocally talentless as the rest of us.

I suspect this, like EyeToy, will be a suprise hit.
