Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has released the first details about Ape Escape: Ape Olympics (tentative title) due for release exclusively for the PlayStation 2 at some point in the middle of next year.
Specifics revealed include the fact that for the first time in the series, cel-shaded graphics will be incorporated, apparently to appeal to younger players.
More interesting however, is the structure and ethos behind the latest game. Rather than your standard running about after a bunch of escaped monkeys, the development team is hard at work on a sports-themed mini-game affair. Said to take the best elements of Super Monkey Ball, Mario Party and Track ‘n’ Field, expect some button-mashing multiplayer goodness.
Set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Toy Fair in January, Ape Escape: Ape Olympics will feature ten games, all of which will be playable to the public.
Expect full coverage in the coming weeks.
