Outrun 2, the Xbox based Chihiro arcade game, due out in a matter of weeks, will be exclusive to PlayStation 2, according to various reports in certain British gaming magazines.
Both Xbox World and PlayStation World carry the story, with XBW branding Sega legend Yu Suzuki a traitor.
“Sources close to Sega suggest the unthinkable is about to happen: Outrun 2 is about to be confirmed as a PlayStation 2 home console Exclusive,” claims Xbox World, predicting the shock announcement to take place in the near future.
However, as far as we’re concerned, this isn’t exactly on the money, as they say. Sega officials - off the record - have openly doubted any home version, hinting that the game is, and always will be, arcade exclusive. “As far as I know, it’s an arcade game and that’s that,” one said.
Yet perhaps a PlayStation 2 version would make sense. Despite the porting issues that must be overcome, it is far more likely that the game would scrape a profit if it were to sit astride the market-leading PlayStation 2, even though, in current form, any single game can only last about ten minutes…
So Outrun 2 will either be an arcade exclusive, it will come out for Xbox, or PlayStation 2 or both.
