Exclusive: Nintendo Poised for New Product Roll-out

Insiders reveal major conference for new ‘thing’.

We can exclusively reveal that Nintendo is planning a high-level conference, due to take place during the week commencing December 1.

The conference will comprise Nintendo Japan’s senior development heads and strategists including marketing chiefs, and heads of PR for Europe, America and Japan. NUK's David Gosen and Shelly Pierce will be in attendance as part of the contingent representing Nintendo of Europe.

It is believed that a serious strategy briefing is to take place, concerning all future hardware and software as well as the mystical “conglomeration of hardware and software” project being internally unveiled.

Also on the cards will be a serious discussion about the looming threat of Sony’s PSP, which must be terrifying Nintendo to the core. It’s not a secret that Nintendo relies on Game Boy revenues to keep it afloat. To have a serious contender in this marketplace for the first time will be healthy for the progression of handheld gaming, but a grim prospect for Nintendo, having kept its cash cow fed on outdated hardware for over a decade.

Nintendo has recently posted its worst half-year results for 20 years, so that worry will also be lurking.

However, the main focus will be on managing a global unveiling of the new ‘thing’, whatever it may be, which is scheduled to be revealed to the world either early next year - according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata - or E3, if you believe senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori.

It's all very interesting, and we’ll keep you posted.
